What does CSAT mean?
Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist
What are signs that I have an addiction to porn or sex?
Signs of a porn or sex addiction can vary and often be easily dismissed because of widespread acceptance, but some things to look out for include: compulsive thoughts, difficulty staying faithful, a loss of control, or neglecting responsibilities to name a few.
Does sex addiction therapy require complete abstinence?
Not necessarily. Therapy usually begins by identifying a specific problematic or unhealthy behavior(s) that you would like to change. Typically in early recovery you and your therapist may discuss abstaining from specific sexual activities. This time period can aid in your therapy progress and create perspective changes on reclaiming your sexuality. You and your therapist will work together to set these goals.
What are the goals of porn or sex addiction therapy?
The short answer is to restore healthy sexuality. Ultimately the goals are set specifically between you and your therapist. Our CSAT therapists do follow a 30-Task Model that is covered through the Patrick Carnes workbooks.
Does my partner/family need to know about my therapy?
If you are in a relationship or marriage and struggling with sex addiction, your partner/spouse needs to know. Addiction thrives in secrecy and shame, and including your partner in early recovery increases your chance of success. You probably have valid fears of upsetting your partner, but telling the truth is a vital step in restoring trust and building a solid foundation in recovery. Your therapist can help you determine what is therapeutic and necessary to share, when to share, and with whom.
